Last season's possibly non-consensual sex scene on "Girls" between Adam (Adam Driver) and Natalia (Shiri Appleby) raised more than a few eyebrows.

While several viewers and media outlets have said that Adam raped Natalia in the Season 2 episode titled "On All Fours," on Thursday, series creator Lena Dunham called it a "misunderstanding."

"Did what Adam do constitute rape? That's hard for me to answer. I'm a rabid feminist. and no woman should ever be placed in a sexual situation that leaves her feeling degraded or compromised. That's not what sex is supposed to feel like,"Dunham told the LA Times. "But I don't think Adam is a villain. If he thought he had even touched the R-word, he would be unable to live. To me, it seemed like a terrible miscommunication between two people who didn't know what they really wanted."

Chris O'Dowd,dvds blu ray, who played Jessa's (Jemima Kirke) very short-lived husband Thomas-John had a light-hearted attitude about the scene in question.

"What I love about that show is that it's honest. If s*** happens, why not shoot it? That's why they call it shooting the sh-t," he said.

Vulture's Margaret Lyons commented that controversial scenes like the one in question are why "Girls" is so successful.

"'Girls' thrives in that scary area bounded by what we say we want, what we actually want, and what we want people to think we want," she wrote in March. "In lighthearted episodes, that triangulation leaves us wondering why Ray is so focused on certain cuts of jeans. In darker episodes, we're left to wonder if one of our favorite characters is actually a rapist.
