Blue Bloods Recap: Samaritan

Cincopa video hosting solution for your website. Another great product from Cincopa Send Files.
Last week it was readily apparent CBS' "Blue Bloods" didn't know what kind of show it really wanted to be.  Now two weeks in, it's becoming clear that the hour-long drama will actually focus on a case-of-the-week, with the Reagan family dinner acting as a segue between the crime/arrest and prosecution of criminals, allowing family members to take sides and debate whether they should truly be following the letter of the law.

"Samaritan" dealt with a man who shot a local gang member terrorizing subway riders in the Flatbush section of New York. Grandpa Henry Reagan (Len Cariou) led an animated discussion bemoaning the prosecution of someone who stopped a rape and may have even saved lives, and Danny(Donny Wahlberg) and the rest of the family seemed to be in the same corner. Only assistant ADA Erin (Bridget Moynahan) seemed to jump on the fact that the man had a previous felony conviction and was carrying a concealed weapon, leaving Tom Selleck's police chief Frank to advise, "We can't choose which laws we enforce."

While the case was interesting — and undoubtedly weaved from shades of black and white to hues of grey — the larger focus was how one decision can change everything in an instant. The good samaritan, for coming to the aid of his fellow citizens, was nearly prosecuted and later stabbed while awaiting prison transport. Frank got involved in the case and had to choose between protecting the case or his new girlfriend, reporter Kelly Davidson (Andrea Roth from "Rescue Me").  Jamie had another rendezvous with the Feds who want him to help solve his brother's murder and bring down corrupt police. Finally, Erin lamented on her pending divorce and nearly let her personal drama interfer with  the case.

In the end, Frank and Kelly were still trying to decide how to balance their new relationship.  Jamie remained on the fence about helping with a secret investigation, and Erin had a change of heart and made sure the good samaritan would only face probation and no jail time. It was a quick and efficient wrap up to an episode which featured the anti-steady cam foot chases, gritty subway scenes and a website designed like TMZ but touting itself as a web portal for "NYThugz."

What did you think of the episode? Are you interested in Frank dating a reporter? Should Jamie go after his brother's killer? Are you surprised Erin is getting a divorce?  And are you finding the Reagan family dinners to be dramatic and interesting or preachy and annoying?
