Lost: Ian Somerhalder Talks Boone's Return

At the TCA (Television Critics Association) Winter Press Tour, The CW held a cocktail mixer featuring the stars of their upcoming series Life Unexpected and their undead smash-hit Vampire Diaries. Diaries' Ian Somerhalder was on hand and, well, handily put to rest any doubts as to whether or not we would be seeing his Lost character Boone return for Lost 's sixth and and final season.

"I'm doing it," Somerhalder stated. "I'm back." The actor then talked about the joys of playing two different types of characters, having to steal off to Hawaii to shoot his scenes for Lost while still filming Vampire  Diaries in Atlanta. He admitted that Diaries Damon was a much more fun character to play "because Boone was - poor Boone - I just think the guy found himself out of his element. He was thrown in kind of a really iffy situation," the actor said. Somerhalder went on to say that "to go from Boone, the heavy-headed heart-broken 'I just slept with my sister' Boone to Damon was a really funny transition." A transition that happened very fast, in fact. "I literally left Hawaii. Left set. Flew to Atlanta and went to set."
What role is Somerhalder get most recognized for? "Lost," the actor said. "Lost  and now, which is crazy, it's shifted to this [Vampire  Diaries]."

Somerhalder then offered up some perspective regarding the two show's fan bases. "When I was in Hawaii shooting Lost , I was in Jack Bender's office - the director and executive producer - and I looked up on his wall and there were all these big newspaper clippings and it says Lost Season 2 premiere and it [had] 31 million viewers in The States. That is a massive amount of people. This show [Diaries] is five million so that's significantly less. But it's the power of the youth, and the youth culture makes it so amazing."
