Hee Haw - 'Kornfield Klassics' Announced by Time Life's Press Release

Pickin' and grinnin,' singin' and spinnin' tall tales and corny jokes, the citizens of Kornfield Kounty landed on television in 1969 with the arrival of HEE HAW as a summer replacement series for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Each week co-hosts Buck Owens and Roy Clark and the cast of comedians and musicians would welcome the biggest stars in country music to perform their songs and help deliver the one-liners.

Conceived as a rural alternative to Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, Hee Haw ranked in the top 20 nationwide in 1971 when CBS cancelled in an attempt to "de-countrify" the network's programming. The show was quickly picked up for syndication, and became the longest-running weekly syndicated original series in television history. The last "new" episode aired in 1992. Looks like the non-network executives had the last hee-haw!

HEE HAW: KORNFIELD KLASSICS features two complete vintage episodes from the early 70s, rarely seen since their original broadcasts. EPISODE #45, hailing from Season 2 (original broadcast date: January 11, 1971), features highlights such as Buck Owens and cast performing "Love's Gonna Live Here," honky-tonk chart-topper Roger Miller performing "Dang Me," and "That's the Way I Feel;" Hagers crooning "Teach Your Children" and Nashville Edition performing "Break My Mind." Kneeslapping sketches include several installments of "Moonshiners" and "Cornfield Jokes," "KORN News," "Archie's Barbershop," and Yankees outfielder Bobby Murcer, who appears in several comedy sketches with Junior Samples.

EPISODE #48, also from the series' second season (original broadcast date: February 2, 1971) highlighted country superstar Loretta Lynn, performing her signature songs "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Secret Love." Other live performances, mixed in with the regular Kornfield Kounty yuks, included Buck Owens and cast performing "Gonna Roll Out The Red Carpet," 'Whisperin' Bill Anderson, one of the most successful songwriters in country music history, singing "Wild Week-End" and "I Love You Drops," and Roy Clark performing "January, April and Me."

For Hee Haw fans, Time Life has also released several additional configurations including a 3-disc collector's set featuring five vintage episodes never before available at retail, and several exclusive sets, only available online at http://timelife.com/products/the-hee-haw-collection or by calling 1-800-950-7887.
